Brown Onion Seed – Longkeeper Landrace
$4.00
Superior Storage Onions
Grow your own reliable, long-storing onions with our Brown Onion Longkeeper Landrace – a tough, well-adapted variety developed right on our farm.
Why Landrace Longkeeper Onions?
Each year we grow out a diverse mix of brown onions and carefully select the very best keepers – the bulbs that store the longest and stay firm and sound through winter. Only seed from these top performers is saved and replanted.
This landrace approach means you get onions bred for real-world resilience. While they won’t be as perfectly uniform as commercial hybrids, they are noticeably more robust, adaptable, and better at storing for extended periods. These have proven to be excellent long-keepers for us, and we’re confident they’ll perform the same in your garden and pantry.

Description
To grow excellent onions sow them between the winter solstice and early spring in trays. Keep moist and fed and plant out once they are 15cm tall.
Prepare the garden beds with well rotted manure and compost. Keep the plants watered and weeded during the warmer months, and as the tops start to flop stop watering them.
Once over 1/2 have flopped over pull them all from the ground and leave them with the roots and tops on somewhere dry and breezy until completely dry.
Anything that tries to grow a seed head in the first season (sometimes weather can confuse the plants) pull out and peel, chop and freeze for later use or dehydrate and grind up for onion powder.
