Thank you for your order! All our plants are packed with care. Please follow these guidelines as soon as your parcel arrives to give your plants the best start.
1. Dormant, Semi-Dormant Crowns, Root Cuttings, Tubers & Bulbs
General Steps for All:
- Unpack immediately upon arrival.
- Inspect the plants. They may appear dry, shrivelled, or “dead” – this is normal for dormant material.
- Remove any damaged or rotted parts with clean scissors (Some times this happens in transit, they will be in a healthy state when they are sent).
- If the roots/crowns feel very dry, soak them in room-temperature water for 1–2 hours (no longer).
- Plant as soon as possible for best results.
For Frost Tender Plants (e.g. sensitive to cold/frost)
- Plant into small pots with well-draining potting mix.
- Keep indoors or in a protected, frost-free area (glasshouse, sunny windowsill, or sheltered spot) until all risk of frost has passed.
- Water lightly after planting and keep the soil moist but not soggy.
- Provide bright, indirect light and warmth (ideally 18–25°C).
- Harden off gradually once the weather is consistently warm before moving outdoors and planting in their permeant position.
For Cold Hardy Plants (tolerate frost/cold)
- These can usually be planted straight outside if the ground is workable (not frozen).
- Plant in their final position or into temporary pots.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
- Apply a light mulch around the base for protection.
- They will naturally wake up when the weather warms in spring.
Note: Dormant material may take several weeks to show new growth. Be patient and do not overwater while waiting.
2. Potted Plants on Arrival
- Unpack the plants as soon as possible.
- Remove any packaging material carefully.
- Check the potting mix – if it is very dry, water thoroughly until water runs out the bottom. Allow excess water to drain.
- If the plant looks wilted from transit, place it in a shady spot for a few hours to recover before moving to brighter light.
- Place in a sheltered position with appropriate light levels for that plant (check the plant label or listing).
- Do not repot immediately unless the plant is clearly outgrowing its pot – wait 2–4 weeks.
- Water regularly but allow the top of the soil to dry slightly between waterings (most plants prefer this).
- Avoid fertilising for the first 2–3 weeks to let the plant settle.
General Tips for All Plants
- Keep newly arrived plants out of direct harsh sun, strong winds, and heavy rain for the first few days.
- Monitor for pests or diseases and treat early if needed.
- Water with room-temperature water.
- Label your plants clearly so you remember their care needs.
- Be patient – plants may take time to adjust after shipping.
