How to Grow Good Bulls Blood Beetroot
Soil & Site: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, though it will tolerate partial shade. Avoid freshly manured soil, which can encourage excessive leaf growth.
Sowing: Direct sow from spring through late summer. Plant seeds 1–2 cm deep and thin seedlings to 10–15 cm apart once established.
Care: Keep soil consistently moist during germination and root development. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Harvest: Pick baby leaves from 4–6 weeks for colourful salad greens. Harvest roots when they reach golf-ball to tennis-ball size for the best flavour and texture.
Tip: Harvest outer leaves regularly while allowing the centre to keep growing—you’ll enjoy both nutritious greens and a generous root crop from the same plant.
