Sweet, Hardy Roots
Grow delicious, sweet parsnips with our Parsnip Landrace – carefully selected and improved over generations on our farm.
Why Landrace Parsnips?
We sow a mix of parsnip types and save seed only from the strongest, sweetest, and most vigorous plants that perform best in our soil and climate. This landrace approach produces roots that are more robust and resilient than uniform commercial varieties.
You’ll get parsnips with excellent flavor and adaptability, even if individual roots vary slightly in size and shape – the hallmark of a true landrace.

How to Grow Good Parsnips
- Soil & Site: Deep, loose, stone-free soil is essential. Avoid fresh manure – work in plenty of compost. Full sun preferred.
- Sowing: Sow direct in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Space seeds 1–2 cm apart, in rows 30–40 cm apart. Thin to 10–15 cm between plants.
- Care: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during germination (which can be slow). Weed carefully around young plants.
- Harvest: Leave in the ground until after the first frosts for sweeter flavour. Parsnips can stay in the soil through winter in mild climates.
- Tip: Fresh seed (like these) germinates best – use within the current season for highest success rates.
